Epidote is a calcium aluminum iron silicate mineral that belongs to the group of sorosilicates. It has a chemical formula of Ca2(Al,Fe)3(SiO4)3(OH) and a hardness of 6-7 on the Mohs scale. Epidote is typically green in color, although it can also appear yellow, brown or black due to the presence of impurities.Epidote is commonly found in metamorphic rocks such as schist, gneiss and marble, as well as in some igneous rocks such as diorite and granite.
