Malachite is a Copper Carbonate Hydroxide Mineral. It Often Results from the Weathering of Copper Ore Around Limestones, the Source of the Carbonate. Malachite was Used as a Mineral Pigment in Green Paints until c. 1800. The Name Derives from Greek Molochites Lithos, "Mallow-Green Stone", Due to its Resemblance to the Leaves of the Mallow Plant. Malachite has Been Mined for more than 3,000 years and has Been Used as Both an Ornamental Stone and as a Gemstone.
